  Theocratic Ministry School cancelled. Why?

  is it possible this aspect of the meeting was cancelled so that jws would not be categorized as a "school" where in many areas elders and ministerial servants would have to submit to a background check by secular authorities?

  this is my first post but i've been lurking for some time.

  ive just spoken to a friend of mine from my jw days who isnt aware that i no longer associate.

  hes the coordinator of the body of elders in his congregation so i suppose he does know something of whats going on at the wt.

  The thought of coming up with $900-$3500 a month for a place of their own or even shared, is enough to scare most bethelites straight back into morning worship buggle call for as long as they can handle it. I feel sorry for them too. Its just real life avoidance like college and the military with less residual benefits.

  Optimist: Watchtower MUST be hurting for money. Look at all the downsizing and begging for money.

  Pessimist: NO WAY they are hurting. They just sold property worth half a billion with half a billion more to go and they get a billion a year in donations. Appearing to be hurting is only a ploy to get more donations.

  Antagonist: We will never know. So just STFU about it.

  Conspiracist: What about the billions of dollars those Gilead missionaries got caught with on the Swiss/Italian border, and the secret tunnels under Brooklyn?

  most religions indoctrinate a standard sexual 'morality' into their followers.

  sex before marriage is wrong, gay sex is wrong, same sex marriage is wrong, masturbation is wrong.. let's not turn this into another religion bashing thread (too easy), i was wondering how much of that pre-packaged thinking you still hold to?.

  i still value marriage, more than ever.

  But that should come naturally and not perpetuated or enforced by a piece of paper or religious pressure. Too many stay in horribly destructive relationships to appease both. Despite the fact divorce rate is 50%.

  That is their way of telling Brooklyn Bethelites that the free ride is over. Rents are cheaper in Wallkill and Patterson, go there and try your luck while integrating with local congregations. Oh and...NY congregations are tired of you Bethelites and carrying your ass.

  I don't think it is a unique story, much more so in a community where we got married to have sex. I'm just not bashful when it comes to talking about it. And my feelings don't get hurt when others are put off by it. We come from a puritan religion in a puritan nation(specifically the US) and morals, sexuality and marriage are all highly bastardized.

  Everyone should have at least half a dozen lengthy sexual relationships before they even think about marriage. Yes it is that important and it can be that different and enlightening. Otherwise you wake up next to the horse's head in your bed wondering what different is probably like. And when you pull up to a red light and just want to run from the car, that marriage license is going to really screw with you. Add children, multiply by 100.

  Marriage is a religious tool and government business contract designed to put money into the court coffers. Don't believe it? Go through a contentious divorce. With a JW. If you marry someone without having lots of sex with them you are a complete idiot. Why not have lots of sex, make a commitment to each other in your heart if inclined, enjoy it while it lasts?

  Probably not one of my more benevolent posts, but marriage and abstinence is completely overrated.
